[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] The Army will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Qatar on the 21st. The plan is to dispatch military police to Qatar, which is hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and transfer know-how such as security. This is the first time the Army military police have been dispatched as overseas instructors.

According to the Army on the 18th, 2 to 3 military police officers with expertise in counter-terrorism and order maintenance will be dispatched from the end of this month until October

to provide training in law enforcement areas such as security, close combat techniques, arrest techniques, and maintaining public order.

The officers dispatched to Qatar are known to be veteran soldiers with experience and expertise in overseas deployments, counter-terrorism special units, military violent crime arrest operations, presidential security, and security duties for various national events.

Qatar visited Korea last year and, after directly confirming the capabilities of the Army military police who were deployed for security operations during the Korea-Japan World Cup and the Pyeongchang Olympics, requested instructor support.

A military official evaluated, "Sending instructors to Qatar, which is hosting a world-class event like the World Cup, means that our military police capabilities are internationally recognized."

Korea and Qatar signed a Korea-Qatar military cooperation agreement in 2014 and have been cooperating in defense industry and military education fields, as well as personnel exchanges. Taking this MOU signing as an opportunity, the military police of both countries plan to expand cooperation through joint training and entrusted education.
