[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] On the 18th, Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, emphasized the attraction of national aerospace research institutions to Gyeongnam at the meeting of heads of offices and bureaus.
Governor Park said, “Aerospace-related companies are concentrated in Jinju and Sacheon, making it possible to attract the Aerospace Administration,” and added, “For the development of South Korea's aerospace industry, national aerospace research institutions must also be gathered in Gyeongnam.”
He also stated, “We must actively seek semiconductor-related companies, establish manpower training programs that meet the demands of industrial sites, and firmly build the industrial foundation for semiconductors.”
He said, “To attract companies concentrated in the metropolitan area to Gyeongnam, it is important to supply industrial sites at low cost, and comprehensive support measures are needed by region and industry, such as tax reductions, expanded incentives, and deregulation,” and ordered, “A basic supply plan for industrial sites must be established to foster the aerospace industry and semiconductors.”
Governor Park expressed concern that the prolonged strike of the subcontractors’ union at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering could shrink the local economy.
He said, “The shipbuilding market is recovering after a long time,” and urged, “The province, Geoje City, and related organizations should take interest and cooperate closely to support a quick resolution of the strike issue.”
Governor Park emphasized, “A response system must be prepared in advance before any safety issues arise for the residents,” and said, “To install a comprehensive emergency medical control tower, the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the province’s disaster, fire, and autonomous police departments must work together.”
He also instructed to review ways for private hospitals and clinics to actively participate in the interdepartmental coordination process.
Regarding the recent larvae incident at the Seokdong Water Purification Plant in Jinhae-gu, Changwon City, he said, “Providing safe tap water to residents is the responsibility of the administration and local governments.”
Governor Park ordered, “Although mayors and county heads are the water service providers, the province should consult with cities and counties to reinforce purification plant personnel, expand inspection cycles and targets, and prepare comprehensive measures.”
He continued, “We must prevent and prepare before any safety issues arise for residents,” and stressed, “In preparation for concentrated summer rains and typhoons such as the monsoon season, inspect low-lying flood areas, beaches, large construction sites, and disaster-vulnerable areas to prevent disasters.”
On that day, Governor Park also requested the establishment of plans for meetings with residents by sector and measures to address issues related to the government office parking lot and vehicle traffic.
He mentioned raising the morale of employees in business departments and responsible personnel management centered on department heads.
Governor Park said, “To perform work efficiently, any employee should directly call or report and communicate with the governor via messenger.”
