KCC Receives 2nd Application for Personal Location Information Business Registration

[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] The Korea Communications Commission announced on the 18th that it will accept the second round of personal location information business registration applications until August 17, in accordance with the '2022 Personal Location Information Business Registration Review Plan' announced in May this year.


The personal location information business refers to a business that collects the location information of specific individuals and provides it to location-based service providers.


Corporations wishing to apply for registration or authorization of personal location information business can apply through the electronic civil service website. Business plans can be submitted by visiting the Internet User Policy Division of the KCC or by mail. However, authorization due to transfer, merger, or division can be applied for at any time.


After receiving registration applications, the KCC plans to form an advisory committee of external experts to comprehensively review the soundness of financial structure, the adequacy of the scale of facilities related to location information business, and the appropriateness of technical and managerial measures for location information protection in accordance with relevant laws. Applicants who receive a satisfactory evaluation on all detailed review criteria will be selected as registered corporations.


An explanatory session on how to prepare registration application documents will be held online on the 26th of this month using the 'On-Nara PC Video Conference' platform.
