[Asia Economy Reporter Kwak Minjae] Humidity forecasts, which frequently appear in weather reports during the summer monsoon season, are expected to be encountered even more often this year. Winix, the number one dehumidifier sales company in Korea, has proposed tips for purchasing dehumidifiers that reduce indoor humidity ahead of the monsoon season.
On the 17th, a Winix official advised, “It is helpful to check whether the dehumidifier has the HD mark (indoor dehumidifier group standard certification) when purchasing.” The Korea Air Cleaning Association strictly evaluates basic functions of dehumidifiers such as dehumidification capacity, power consumption, and noise, and only products that pass the evaluation are awarded the HD mark.
They also recommended checking whether the product has a Grade 1 energy consumption efficiency rating to reduce electricity costs. Additionally, although air conditioners can perform dehumidification functions, using a dehumidifier is better than an air conditioner in terms of power consumption. According to Winix, the power consumption of an air conditioner for a 10-pyeong area is about 1600 to 1800 watts, whereas a dehumidifier consumes about 200 to 600 watts.
Another reason to purchase a dehumidifier is the recent diversification of its functions. Representative features include an automatic stop function when the water tank is full and the ability to dry clothes and shoes with air that has had moisture removed. The capacity of a dehumidifier is expressed as the amount of moisture (condensed water) removed during 24 hours of continuous operation under indoor conditions of 27℃ temperature and 60% relative humidity, based on the Korean KS standard environment.
Meanwhile, Winix has led the domestic dehumidifier market since 2009, ranking first in cumulative sales both online and offline. It was also selected as number one in the dehumidifier category for four consecutive years in the ‘2022 National Brand Competitiveness Index (NBCI)’ announced by the Korea Productivity Center (KPC).
