Engaging Activity-Based Programs and Customized Learning Support... Enhancing Basic Science Competencies
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gui-yeol] The Gyeongbuk Office of Education will operate the ‘Science Jumping School Summer Camp’ during the summer vacation period in July and August.
‘Science Jumping School’ is a project designed to increase interest and motivation in science, cultivate a spirit of challenge, and provide opportunities to enhance basic scientific competencies and demonstrate scientific talents and potential. This year, it is being piloted at Naenam Elementary School in Gyeongju and Ssangnim Middle School in Goryeong, and the project plans to expand further next year.
Ssangnim Middle School is a small school with 34 students located in a township area of Goryeong County. It will operate the Science Jumping Weeks, which diagnose learning difficulties and develop and apply student-tailored programs, from July 6 to July 21. Various experiential activities such as Science Jumping Rally, Invention Class, Science-Sports Camp, AI Experience, and NFT Experience will be provided.
In the second semester, through monthly Science Jumping Days, visits to several educational venues such as the Uiseong AI Experience Center, Gyeongsan Mathematics Experience Center, and Southern Maker Experience Center are planned.
Naenam Elementary School in Gyeongju will operate the ‘Science Jumping School Camp’ for two days from August 1 to 2.
On the first day of the camp, under the theme ‘Easily Enjoying the VR World,’ participants will make a simple HMD (Head Mounted Display) called Google Cardboard and use ScienceAll’s immersive content ‘VR Nature Observation’ to observe Jeju coast, Hallasan Mountain, and Changwon Upo Wetland.
On the second day, participants will make and decorate automata dolls themselves in the program ‘Moving Science Made by My Own Hands! Making Automata,’ to understand the principles of mechanical operation.
Based on the experiences from the Science Jumping School Camp, experience booths will be operated at events such as the ‘Gyeongju Science Dream Festival’ and ‘Invention Experience Festival,’ and students who participated in the camp will join as operation assistants to practice sharing science.
Kim Jeong-han, Director of the Creative Talent Division, said, “Through fun activity-centered programs and customized learning support, we will strive to enhance the basic scientific competencies of students experiencing learning difficulties and recover educational deficits, providing opportunities to demonstrate scientific talents and potential, thereby realizing collaborative creative convergence education.”
