[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, who launched the 8th term of local government with the slogan ‘Green Smart City Gangnam,’ will hold a communication session directly meeting with residents' organizations under the theme ‘Listening to the Stories of Gangnam’ from the 13th to the 21st at the large conference room on the 3rd floor of the district office.
On the first day, the 13th, Mayor Jo met with 16 members of the Residents' Autonomy Committee Chairpersons' Association in the morning, and in the afternoon, he met with 27 members of the Saemaul Movement Gangnam Branch and Saemaul Women's Association to share the policy direction of the 8th term of Gangnam-gu and listen to residents' opinions and suggestions.
Over the course of a week, about 350 resident representatives from 18 organizations in Gangnam-gu, including ▲Gangnam-gu Council for the Right Living Movement ▲Residents' Autonomous Crime Prevention Volunteer Corps ▲Green Mothers' Association ▲Child and Youth-related Organizations ▲Women's Organizations ▲Environmental Protection Organizations ▲Community Leaders' Council, will participate in small groups.
Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, said, “The 8th term of Gangnam-gu has prepared this first official event meeting with residents after the inauguration as a place to closely communicate with each individual to actively reflect residents' opinions in the district administration for a new leap forward,” adding, “We will continue to create a Gangnam-gu where residents are satisfied and happy through empathetic administration prioritizing communication.”
Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, attended the 5th Dobong-gu Community Social Security Plan Mid-term Report and Welfare Forum held on the 13th at the Seoninbong Hall of the district office.
The report meeting and welfare forum were held with about 100 participants, including members of the Community Social Security Council and related officials, to review the progress of the 5th Dobong-gu Community Social Security Plan from 2023 to 2026 and to suggest directions for welfare policies.
The Korea Industrial Information Research Institute explained the implementation results of the 4th Community Social Security Plan and the results of the local residents' needs survey, followed by a Q&A session. The eight working subcommittees of the Community Social Security Council (▲Integrated Case Management ▲Planning ▲Health and Medical ▲Elderly ▲Child and Youth ▲Women ▲Disabled ▲Employment) proposed directions for Dobong welfare for the next four years by subcommittee.
Finally, the co-chairs of the Community Social Security Representative Council (Dobong-gu Mayor Oh Eon-seok and Director Lee Sang-rok of Dobong Disabled Comprehensive Welfare Center) read the vision declaration of the 5th Community Social Security Plan, pledging a future of welfare in Dobong where everyone can live well through public-private cooperation.
The various opinions presented on this day will be reflected in the 5th plan and finalized after public announcement and review by residents in September.
The Community Social Security Plan is a statutory plan under the Social Security Benefits Act, setting goals for promoting community social security and preparing specific strategies and implementation plans as a mid-term basic plan. According to the plan, it will present the direction for the development of local welfare in Dobong-gu from 2023 to 2026.
Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, "The 5th Community Social Security Plan is a major plan that sets the comprehensive welfare policy direction of our district for the next four years, so we intend to reflect diverse voices from various fields and sites. We will do our best to create a future welfare Dobong where everyone enjoys a happy daily life through change and growth over the next four years."
Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, packaged nutrition kits together with members of the Saemaul Women's Association at the ‘Healthy Summer Samgyetang Sharing Event’ held on the morning of the 14th at Jigucheon Church in Sinjeong 2-dong.
The nutrition kits, prepared for energy recovery on the first day of the hottest summer period (Chobok), included samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup), rice cakes, watermelon, and other items. They were delivered to about 120 elderly people at Dansan Elderly Love Room and vulnerable groups in the area through Lee Gi-jae, the Saemaul Women's Association, and staff of the Sinjeong 2-dong Community Service Center.
Visiting Dansan Elderly Love Room to deliver samgyetang, Mayor Lee said, “I thank the Saemaul Women's Association for their continuous efforts for neighbors and the community on the front lines. The district government will also carefully look after social minorities and ensure no neighbors are left out,” adding, “I hope the elderly and residents enjoy the samgyetang prepared with sincerity today and have a healthy summer.”
Kim Tae-woo, Mayor of Gangseo-gu, Seoul, encouraged examinees and parents by attending the ‘2023 Academic Year Early Admission University Entrance Briefing’ held on the afternoon of the 14th at the Gangseo-gu Citizens' Hall.
In his greeting, Mayor Kim said, “I hope to resolve questions about the diversified university admission system and help all examinees set customized strategies for each admission type to get accepted to their desired universities,” adding, “The district will also do its best to create a study-friendly environment and make Gangseo a great place to raise children.”
The briefing was attended by about 500 examinees and parents, where Yoon Yoon-gu, a representative lecturer from EBSi, provided features of the 2023 academic year admissions and customized support strategies for major universities.
Lee Soo-hee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, visited the field to meet residents as her first step after inauguration.
Starting from the Gangil-dong Community Service Center on the 11th, Mayor Lee toured all 18 community service centers in the district, listening to various opinions from residents and visiting major facilities in each area to check local issues.
At meetings with major institutions, organizations, and resident representatives in each neighborhood, Mayor Lee presented the policy vision for the 8th term to create a ‘Vibrant Change, Proud Gangdong,’ gaining residents' consensus on the newly reborn Gangdong.
Lee Soo-hee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “We plan to continuously collect residents' opinions through various communication channels such as meetings with residents and lead district administration,” adding, “We will do our best to make Gangdong-gu a clean and vibrant city where everyone wants to live.”
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) held the closing ceremony of the 8th term ‘Happy Jungnang Vision Committee’ on the afternoon of the 13th. The blueprint for the pledges has been drawn.
The closing ceremony proceeded with sharing the results of the Vision Committee's activities, delivering activity reports and souvenirs. The Vision Committee attracted attention by presenting the mayor with a puzzle frame containing hopeful messages from residents as a souvenir.
The Happy Jungnang Vision Committee, composed of 29 experts from various fields such as local residents, education, and economy, started operating on the 20th of last month to establish pledge projects that residents can empathize with from their perspective and to review feasibility and project validity.
During the activity period, three subcommittees?▲Education, Culture, and Cooperation ▲Economy, Health, and Welfare ▲Urban Development and Residential Environment?held meetings to review and advise on 125 projects.
They also actively proposed new projects and conveyed residents' inconveniences experienced so far, expanding their scope to overall district administration.
The policy proposals and suggestions presented by the committee totaled 137, including 107 related to pledges and 30 related to other district administration matters. Based on the committee's advice, the district will plan projects, finalize the 8th term pledge projects in October, and establish pledge implementation plans in November.
Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “It is meaningful that the roadmap for the 8th term of Jungnang-gu, reflecting experts' and residents' opinions, has been drawn through the Vision Committee activities,” adding, “We will continue to actively review diverse and innovative proposals and reflect them in district administration.”
