Gwangjin-gu Leads Efforts to Establish Public Service Discipline Ahead of Summer Vacation Season

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho·photo) is taking the lead in establishing public service discipline, which can easily become lax during the summer vacation season.

The district has established the ‘Plan for Establishing Public Service Discipline in Preparation for the Summer Vacation Season’ and will carry out ▲public service discipline education ▲special inspections on public service discipline ▲self-diagnosis of public service discipline by all employees until August 19.

This effort to establish public service discipline was promoted to strictly enforce public service discipline, which could become lax due to changes in the work environment with the arrival of the summer vacation season coinciding with the launch of the 8th elected government, and to foster a culture of integrity in public service.

First, the district will provide all employees with educational materials on ▲prohibition of improper receipt of overtime pay, travel expenses, etc. ▲compliance with obligations as public officials such as the Anti-Graft Act and the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act ▲maintaining an honest attitude and dignity and compliance with the Code of Conduct for Public Officials, and conduct ‘public service discipline establishment education’ to ensure understanding.

In addition, during the period, ‘special inspections on public service discipline’ will be conducted frequently, focusing on ▲violations of service regulations such as unauthorized absence during work and false business trips ▲violations of the Code of Conduct for Public Officials such as improper solicitation and acceptance of money or valuables related to duties ▲other passive work handling, damage to the dignity of public officials, and misconduct.

Finally, the district will conduct a ‘self-diagnosis of public service discipline’ by the 15th to provide an opportunity for affiliated public officials to reflect on their own public service discipline. All employees will self-diagnose and reflect on 4 areas and 9 items related to public service discipline through the Cheongbaek-e system, taking time to establish integrity in daily life.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “This establishment of public service discipline will greatly help create a more trustworthy and honest district administration for residents,” and added, “We will continue to strive to realize a kind and honest district administration.”

Gwangjin-gu Leads Efforts to Establish Public Service Discipline Ahead of Summer Vacation Season

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) has swiftly launched ‘Visiting Infection Control Consulting and Oral Care’ targeting elderly facilities in the area to proactively respond to the resurgence of COVID-19.

Recently, the number of new COVID-19 cases exceeded 20,000, marking a shift back to an expansion phase of the pandemic.

Accordingly, Gwangjin-gu strengthened its infectious disease response system by visiting daycare centers, senior citizen centers, and senior universities to provide infection control consulting and oral care for elderly people with weakened immunity.

The infection control consulting and oral care started on the 8th at Pyeonggang Village Daycare Center and will be conducted until the end of August at 13 daycare centers in the area, targeting about 700 elderly people and center staff.

First, infection control consulting provides education on infectious disease prevention life rules and management methods in case of suspected patients, focusing on COVID-19 prevention and response. Customized one-on-one consulting is conducted according to each center’s facilities and environment, offering effective infectious disease prevention methods, along with education on managing summer food ingredients and cooking utensils.

Additionally, oral examinations, mouth exercises for elderly oral health, denture care methods, toothbrush and interdental brush usage education, and fluoride application to prevent caries common in old age are provided. Elderly people diagnosed with oral diseases receive continuous care linked with dental treatment at the Gwangjin-gu Public Health Center.

Along with this, the district will conduct chronic disease and oral disease management for senior citizen centers and senior universities in the area until the end of November. Through education on prevention and management of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, oral health care, nutrition, and exercise, elderly people are supported to manage their own health and improve their quality of life.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Through visiting infection control consulting and oral care for the elderly, we will prevent the spread of infectious diseases and pay closer attention to the health of the elderly,” adding, “We will not relax in strengthening a meticulous quarantine system to protect the safety of residents, which is the top priority of district administration.”

Meanwhile, besides oral care for daycare center elderly, residents of Seoul aged 65 or older or medical aid recipients can receive free examinations, fluoride application, abrasion treatment, and simple tooth extraction treatment at the Gwangjin-gu Public Health Center’s Oral Health Clinic by prior reservation.
