Changwon Special City Selected as an 'Outstanding Local Government for Social Enterprise Development' by the Ministry of Employment and Labor

On the 11th, Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam was selected as an excellent local government for fostering social enterprises in 2022, hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam announced on the 11th that it has been selected as an ‘Excellent Local Government for Social Enterprise Promotion 2022’ hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor.

The city received the Excellence Award in this evaluation and won the Minister of Employment and Labor Award for the second consecutive year.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor selects ‘Excellent Local Governments for Social Enterprise Promotion’ annually to share various cases of social enterprise promotion carried out in regions and to activate region-based social enterprises led by local governments and supported by the central government.

This evaluation was comprehensively conducted in five areas: ▲Discovery and management of preliminary social enterprises ▲Job creation and market support ▲Establishment of social enterprise support systems and best practices ▲Execution and inspection of financial support projects ▲Talent development for revitalizing the social economy.

To ensure the continuous growth of the social economy, the city is implementing various policies such as ▲Discovering social economy enterprises ▲Activating the Social Economy Support Center ▲Financial support for job creation ▲Social economy crowdfunding ▲Operating the online shopping mall Nubisanghoe ▲Hosting social economy marketplaces.

In particular, this year, the city signed agreements with six local universities to nurture talent in the social economy, promoting social economy special lectures and promotional exhibitions for students, operating social economy internships, and advancing a social economy activation network project to encourage interest and participation in the social economy.

Mayor Hong Nam-pyo said, “We will do our best to ensure that the social economy, which solves various local community problems and provides jobs and social services to vulnerable groups, can establish itself as a warm growth engine in an era of low growth and polarization.”
