Ulju County Bowling Team Stops Drunk Driver and Reports to Police

At 8 p.m. on the 7th in Seongjeong-dong, Cheonan-si, Chungnam, five men wearing black shoes, red T-shirts, and beige pants ran out onto the road and blocked a vehicle. The fingers that had just been inserted into the holes of the bowling ball were now pressing against the car door and hood with force.

These men were players from the Ulsan Ulju-gun Office Bowling Team. The players, upon spotting a drunk driving vehicle, desperately stopped the car to prevent a bigger accident, and this act later spread as a heartwarming story.

According to Ulju-gun on the 11th, the Ulju-gun Office Bowling Team, who had come to Cheonan-si, Chungnam to participate in the National Corporate Bowling Tournament, witnessed a suspicious vehicle on a road in Seongjeong-dong, Cheonan, while returning to their lodging after the game.

The team saw that the vehicle was not driving normally, approached it, and upon checking inside, found the driver unable to stay alert and smelling of alcohol.

Judging the situation as dangerous, the team stopped the car to prevent it from moving, opened the door through the open driver's side window, and stopped the driver's actions.

They then reported the incident to the police, and after confirming that an ambulance had arrived at the scene, the team returned to their lodging.

A witness said, "It was a dangerous situation on a busy road during rush hour where no one dared to approach, but the players all worked together to stop the car from moving. If they had not stopped the drunk driving vehicle, there would have surely been serious damage not only to the driver but also to other vehicles," praising their actions.

Founded in 2002, the Ulju-gun Office Bowling Team consists of coach Jo Seong-ryong and players Kang Hee-won, Noh Min-seok, Park Kyung-rok, Oh Jin-won, Jang Dong-cheol, and Hwang Dong-wook.

Last year, three of their players were selected for the national team, showcasing their skills and achieving excellent results in various domestic and international bowling tournaments, including the annual National Sports Festival.

The ‘heroes’ who could not pass by indifferently after witnessing that perilous driving were this very team.
