A youth career and job experience fair, where participants could explore various occupations such as police officer job experience, drone operator experience, and companion animal behavior counseling, was held at Dongmyung University.

About 1,200 high school students and citizens enjoyed diverse programs over two days on July 8-9 at the Dongmyung University campus.

Popular and emerging occupations such as making your own perfume, “Welcome, is this your first time with the police?”, special drone experience, companion animal behavior correction counseling, speech therapist and audiologist examinations, aviation service VR experience, and rehabilitation training were featured.

More than 60 programs including these occupational groups and career exploration zones, sports leisure zones, cultural arts zones, and campus tours were presented over the two hot days.

The entire campus, including the main stadium, university headquarters and business building, social sciences building, architecture and design building, student welfare center, central library, Dongmyung Hall, engineering building, port logistics building, and PRIME promotion hall, was transformed into a job experience venue.

The first day focused on high school students’ experiences, while the second day was dedicated to experiences for citizen families.

Dongmyung University’s Department of Companion Animal Health, which established the nation’s first College of Companion Animals, along with officials from the Korea Kennel Association, demonstrated companion animal training, briefly capturing the attention of participants.

DIY Bluetooth speaker making, creating personalized plaster air fresheners, making robotic arm recycling machines, and the F1 solar car booth were also very popular.

The opening ceremony on the first day, July 8, was attended by Oh Eun-taek, Mayor of Nam-gu, Busan; Lee Dong-ryeol, General Head of the Korea Daily Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Reporting Headquarters; Song Yeon-ik, President of the Busan Bowling Association; and Park Eun-soo, Director of Osan Central Youth Culture House.

The Navy Operations Command military band performed, and Dongmyung University’s dance club presented congratulatory dances.

About 300 student volunteers from the university worked hard to assist with the event, and six Dongmyung University ambassadors, who were winners of the Miss Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam pageant, also supported the event.

Professor Kim Jong-gi of the Department of Industrial Design, who operated the plaster air freshener making booth, said, “Many visitors came to the booth, and the materials ran out early,” adding that he was busy without time to blame the heatwave.

The reactions from participants and volunteers were overwhelmingly positive. “It feels like experiencing the romance of university campus life in advance,” “Being able to do dozens of experiences that directly help with aptitude assessment and career choice all in one place meant there was no time to lose to the heat,” “The sweat shed while volunteering is the foundation for becoming a Do-ing talent.”

President Jeon Ho-hwan said, “This Do-ing Career and Job Experience Fair was an unprecedented open campus event carried out in cooperation with industry, academia, and government under the Ministry of Education’s recently selected University Support Project for High School Education Contribution,” adding, “Throughout the preparation and event period, you could feel Dongmyung University’s passion for nurturing Do-ing (Challenge, Experience, Practice) talents.”
