[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Mesh Korea, operator of 'Boorung,' announced on the 7th that it signed a business agreement with Gyeongsangbuk-do, Gimcheon City, and Gyeongbuk Technopark regarding the 'Smart Green Logistics Special Zone New Business Promotion and Headquarters Relocation.'
On the morning of the same day at the Gyeongbuk Provincial Office, Yoo Jeong-beom, Chairman of Mesh Korea, Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, Kim Chung-seop, Mayor of Gimcheon, and Ha In-seong, Director of Gyeongbuk Technopark, exchanged agreements to actively cooperate in promoting Mesh Korea's new logistics business and relocating its headquarters.
According to this agreement, Mesh Korea will promote various new businesses, including the construction of a data-based smart logistics center on a 66,000㎡ site within the Smart Green Logistics Regulatory Free Zone located in Gimcheon, Gyeongbuk, by 2025, and relocate its corporate headquarters to Gyeongbuk Province. Mesh Korea plans to launch a task force team for headquarters relocation preparation within the year and prepare plans to move its headquarters address from Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
In addition to building the logistics center, Mesh Korea will invest a total of 100 billion KRW to industrialize an eco-friendly mobility battery charging platform, foster IT talent in Gyeongbuk, give preferential hiring to local talents, and establish the Boorung Academy (tentative name) for store owners and delivery personnel.
Gyeongsangbuk-do, Gimcheon City, and Gyeongbuk Technopark will support corporate investment using investment funds they have established and operate to assist Mesh Korea's new business, support the construction of smart logistics infrastructure and R&D for data-based logistics systems, provide employment and talent development programs, and offer tax, financial, and policy fund support.
This agreement is the result of aligned interests between Mesh Korea, which is innovating the traditional logistics industry into a digital-based smart logistics industry by integrating data and IT technology, and Gyeongsangbuk-do, which aims to establish a forward base for smart logistics industries based on the 4th industrial revolution technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data, centered on the Gimcheon Green Logistics Regulatory Free Zone.
Mesh Korea is currently participating as the lead organization for the 'Urban Life Logistics Integrated Platform' project within the 'Gyeongbuk Smart Green Logistics Regulatory Free Zone,' supporting the entire logistics process including ordering, storage, packaging, delivery, and inventory management based on an e-commerce platform targeting small and medium-sized merchants, neighborhood markets, and traditional markets vulnerable in the online market, actively cooperating with Gyeongbuk Province's policies.
Through this agreement, Gyeongsangbuk-do expects to gain momentum in the construction of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Integrated New Airport, the establishment of an air logistics complex, attracting related companies, and job creation. Mesh Korea anticipates that the logistics infrastructure, which has been concentrated in the metropolitan area, will expand to the Yeongnam region, and the newly constructed smart logistics center will become a logistics hub for the Yeongnam region.
Yoo Jeong-beom, Chairman of Mesh Korea, said, "This business agreement will be an important turning point accelerating the digital transformation of logistics that Mesh Korea has been promoting to innovate Korea's logistics industry," adding, "By applying highly evolved IT technologies, we will grow Korea's logistics industry into a core industry of the 4th Industrial Revolution era."
