[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Gwangju Technopark is expected to attract more than 200 billion KRW in national funding projects this year, which is anticipated to significantly contribute to securing a new growth engine base for the regional industry and creating quality jobs.
Since Director Kim Seon-min took office in 2020, Gwangju Technopark has been attracting national funding projects worth more than 100 billion KRW annually.
They secured 132.3 billion KRW in 2020 and 189.5 billion KRW in 2021, and it is expected that in 2022 they will surpass previous achievements by securing a budget of 200 billion KRW.
Compared to the average national funding budget of about 40 billion KRW over five years from 2015 to 2019, this is a remarkable achievement.
This budget securing success is understood to be the result of Director Kim Seon-min’s strong determination to secure national projects, along with the collective efforts of all employees through internal idea contests and other initiatives.
In the first half of this year, 73.5 billion KRW in national funding projects were confirmed, with detailed projects including ▲ Establishment of an Industrial Complex-type Intelligent Distributed Energy Corporate Joint Research Utilization Center (21.1 billion KRW) ▲ Establishment of a Commercialization Support Platform for AI Home Appliance Industry Development (16.9 billion KRW) ▲ Construction of a Digital-linked Absorbent Material Convergence Medical Industry Base (15 billion KRW) ▲ Establishment of Testing and Evaluation for Battery Module and Pack Systems for Electric Vehicles (13.5 billion KRW) ▲ Other projects (7.1 billion KRW).
In the second half of the year, Gwangju Technopark is attracting 26 projects including ▲ K-Health National Medical AI Service and Industrial Ecosystem Construction Project (42.8 billion KRW) ▲ AI-based Manufacturing Industry Intelligent Process Innovation Center Construction Project (35.5 billion KRW) ▲ Low-carbon, High-value-added Electrode Material Remanufacturing Innovation Technology Development Project (28.2 billion KRW) ▲ Home Service Future Robot Home Appliance Industry Development Platform Construction Project (18 billion KRW). Considering the four projects that are almost certain to be secured, it is expected that this year they will secure national funding projects worth about 200 billion KRW, surpassing last year’s performance.
Additionally, to secure future growth engines for the Gwangju region, projects such as ▲ AI Digital Semiconductor Specialized Complex Development Project ▲ Next-generation Mobility Dedicated Industrial Complex Development ▲ Gwangju (Super Metropolitan Area) Advanced Medical Complex Development Project have been planned as presidential election pledges, and with their adoption as national tasks by the new government, detailed execution plans are currently being established.
Director Kim Seon-min said, “Since taking office, we have secured more than 100 billion KRW in national budgets for three consecutive years, laying the foundation for new growth engines in the region’s future strategic industries,” and added, “As Gwangju enters the 8th term of local government with new growth engines and a new era, Gwangju Technopark will also do its best.”
