[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Chang-won] Lee Seung-ah, a member of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Council (Democratic Party, Ora-dong), has taken the lead in proposing the "Partial Amendment to the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Ordinance on the Installation and Operation of Optimal Viewing Seats for the Disabled in Public Facilities" at the 407th extraordinary session as the first pledge of the 12th council.
This ordinance aims to contribute to the improvement of convenience for the disabled by clearly defining the installation and management regulations of optimal viewing seats for the disabled in public facilities and guaranteeing the disabled's right to choose seats.
Optimal viewing seats refer to seats installed in the best locations within the audience area of viewing facilities.
The ordinance stipulates that 100 percent or more of the disabled seats must be installed as optimal viewing seats, that optimal viewing seats must be marked so that the disabled can conveniently use them, and that the disabled's right to choose seats must be guaranteed.
Lee Seung-ah, who took the lead in proposing the amendment, stated, "Although the disabled and their companions visit public facilities such as performance halls, convenience facilities for them are insufficient in reality. Through this ordinance amendment, I hope that by securing basic rights such as mobility and access for the disabled and meeting their increasing cultural needs, the disabled can enjoy cultural life in a better environment."
