[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] As COVID-19 shows signs of resurgence, nearly 20,000 confirmed cases were reported nationwide as of 9 PM on the 6th.
According to Seoul Metropolitan Government and other local governments, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases nationwide from 12 AM to 9 PM on this day was counted at 17,507. This is 1,099 fewer than the previous day but marks the third consecutive day of cases in the high 10,000s since the 4th.
Compared to last week, the spread is clearly evident. The number of confirmed cases as of 9 PM on this day is 8,431 more than a week ago on the 29th of last month. It has increased by 10,454 compared to two weeks ago on the 22nd of last month. The final number of confirmed cases for the day is expected to reach 20,000.
From the 30th of last month for one week, the daily new confirmed cases were 9,591 → 9,523 → 10,713 → 10,053 → 6,253 → 18,147 → 19,371. This averages about 11,950 cases per day.
As of 9 PM on this day, new confirmed cases were 10,426 (59.6%) in the metropolitan area and 7,081 (40.4%) in non-metropolitan areas. By region, confirmed cases were 4,886 in Gyeonggi, 4,579 in Seoul, 971 in Gyeongnam, 961 in Incheon, 798 in Gyeongbuk, 606 in Chungnam, 598 in Busan, 561 in Gangwon, 552 in Daegu, 488 in Daejeon, 480 in Ulsan, 458 in Jeonbuk, 441 in Chungbuk, 411 in Jeonnam, 391 in Jeju, 313 in Gwangju, and 13 in Sejong.
