Frequent Inspection of Heatwave Mitigation Facilities like Shade Shelters and Cooling Centers

Save Residents from the Scorching Heat! ... Gyeongnam Province Holds Emergency Meeting on Heatwave Response The Gyeongsangnam-do Emergency Heatwave Response Meeting is being held on the 6th.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Gyeongsangnam-do held an emergency countermeasure meeting to respond to the heatwave on the afternoon of the 6th.

The meeting was attended by Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongnam, related departments dealing with the heatwave, and all cities and counties. They reviewed issues and progress by sector and prepared measures to strengthen the prevention of casualties.

Gyeongnam-do prioritized strengthening publicity and guidance for public and private workplaces to ensure the safety management of outdoor workers, who have a high proportion of heat-related illness cases.

Even if public construction projects are suspended for disaster prevention, no penalties such as delay damages due to extended construction periods will be imposed.

For small-scale private workplaces with poor working conditions, the province will visit directly to provide guidance on heat-related illness prevention and safety rules. For private construction projects, if suspended for disaster prevention, extension of construction periods and contract amount adjustments will be recommended.

Heatwave prevention guidance and publicity will be provided at 1,170 small construction sites with budgets exceeding 100 million won, and private safety organizations such as security guards and safety monitoring volunteer groups will collaborate to provide heatstroke prevention guidelines.

To manage the health of farm and fishery workers in rural areas and the elderly, village officials will strengthen heatwave monitoring activities during vulnerable hours.

Using media such as TV and newspapers, the plan is to increase the publicity period and frequency to promote heatwave damage prevention guidelines.

The province will also regularly inspect heatwave mitigation facilities such as shade shelters and the operation status of cooling centers.

They will promptly respond to additional budget requests from cities and counties for the expansion and maintenance of heatwave prevention facilities.

A Gyeongsangnam-do official said, “Since May 20, we have been operating a dedicated heatwave team continuously to implement sector-specific measures and manage the situation. We will regularly check the progress to ensure that the countermeasures prepared at this meeting are steadily implemented.”
