Democratic Party Selects Livelihood Legislation for July Extraordinary Session... "Urgently Processing Support Laws for Fuel and Food Prices"

[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The Democratic Party of Korea has selected and announced seven major legislative tasks related to public welfare to be addressed during the July extraordinary session of the National Assembly.

The Democratic Party's 'Public Welfare Priority Action Team' held a plenary meeting at the National Assembly on the same day to announce the priority tasks for the extraordinary session. Park Hong-geun, the floor leader of the Democratic Party, stated, "We have designated the fuel tax support law (Transportation Energy Environment Tax), the worker meal support law (Income Tax Act), and the interest rate crash prevention law (Banking Act) as urgent tasks to alleviate the burden on the public amid the triple hardships of high inflation, high oil prices, and high exchange rates." He added, "Since there is no disagreement within the ruling party regarding the reduction of fuel tax and the expansion of non-taxation on meal expenses, we expect active cooperation."

He also said, "The Small Business Damage Support Act, which includes expanding the scope of loss compensation and establishing grounds for advance support to ensure full compensation, must be urgently implemented as it was pledged by both ruling and opposition parties in the last presidential election." He continued, "We will promptly introduce amendments to the Freight Motor Vehicle Transport Business Act to abolish the sunset clause of the Safe Freight Rate System, the Act on Promotion of Mutual Cooperation between Large, Medium, and Small Enterprises to introduce a linkage system for delivery prices, and the Fair Subcontracting Transactions Act to support small and medium-sized enterprises struggling amid the economic crisis."

Regarding the rights of persons with disabilities, he stated, "We will also accelerate the enactment of the Act to Improve Convenience for Transportation Vulnerable Groups without further delay."

Regarding the activities of the Democratic Party's Public Welfare Priority Action Team, Floor Leader Park evaluated, "Thanks to the agile response and effective policy formulation efforts of the Public Welfare Priority Action Team over the past three weeks, the Democratic Party's public welfare DNA is being revived."
