British media GiveMeSport reported on the 5th (local time) that Son Heung-min is the highest-paid Asian football player in terms of weekly wages. The media cited 'SportTrack,' which discloses sports players' contract information, stating that Son Heung-min's weekly wage is ?140,000 (approximately 218.88 million KRW).


According to SportTrack, Son Heung-min signed a 6-year contract extension in 2018, receiving a weekly wage of ?140,000 and an annual salary of ?7.28 million at Tottenham. Son, who joined Tottenham in 2015, earned an annual salary of ?4.42 million during his first three seasons.


The media described Son Heung-min as "one of the world's best wingers" and noted that "he won the Premier League Golden Boot last season with 23 goals."


The media introduced the highest weekly wage earners by continent. The highest weekly wage earner in Europe and the 'weekly wage king' among football players worldwide is Kylian Mbapp? (24, France), a forward for Paris Saint-Germain. Citing the British media Daily Mail, the media reported that Mbapp?'s weekly wage is ?1 million.


In May, Mbapp? rejected an offer from Spain's La Liga club Real Madrid and signed a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain. The media explained, "He earns much more than Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo, who receives a weekly wage of ?510,000."


The highest-paid South American player in terms of weekly wages is Lionel Messi (35, Argentina) of Paris Saint-Germain. Citing the British media Daily Mail, the media reported Messi's weekly wage as ?960,000. Messi, who joined Paris Saint-Germain last year, earns ?350,000 more than his teammate Neymar (31, Brazil).


The top African player is Mohamed Salah, a forward for Liverpool in the English Premier League (EPL), earning a weekly wage of ?400,000. Among North American players, the highest weekly wage earner is Christian Pulisic (24, USA), a forward for EPL's Chelsea, earning ?150,000 per week. In Oceania, Chris Wood (32, New Zealand), a forward for EPL's Newcastle, earns a weekly wage of ?80,000.


Meanwhile, Son Heung-min attended the 'Son Coming Day' event held on the 4th at the Adidas Brand Center in Mapo-gu, Seoul. On that day, Son cited the 2018 Russia World Cup match against Germany (2-0) as the best game of his life.


Son said, "When I was young, I went to Germany and experienced many hardships I could never have imagined," adding, "I faced a lot of racial discrimination and often thought that one day I must repay it." He continued, "I saw Germans crying, but being able to take revenge with what I love makes it the most memorable match."
