The 264th Extraordinary Session is conducting the election for the Speaker of the 9th General Assembly's first half term.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The Hapcheon County Council in Gyeongnam held the 264th extraordinary session at 10 a.m. on the 5th, taking the first step in the four-year legislative activities of the 9th Hapcheon County Council.
At the first plenary session convened that day, following the election results, Councilor Jo Samsul (District Na, People Power Party) was elected as the chairperson for the first half, Councilor Seong Jong-tae (District Ra, People Power Party) as the vice-chairperson, Councilor Lee Tae-ryeon (Proportional Representation, People Power Party) as the chairperson of the Council Steering Committee, Councilor Shin Kyung-ja (District Ra, Democratic Party of Korea) as the chairperson of the Welfare and Administration Committee, and Councilor Lee Han-shin (District Ga, People Power Party) as the chairperson of the Industry and Construction Committee.
Among the 11 members of the 9th council present, Councilor Jo Samsul and Councilor Park Anna competed in the chairperson election, with Jo Samsul elected by 7 to 4 votes. In the vice-chairperson election, Councilor Seong Jong-tae and Councilor Kwon Young-sik contended, with Seong Jong-tae elected by 6 to 5 votes.
After organizing the committees, the county council held the inauguration ceremony of the 9th Hapcheon County Council at 2 p.m. in the main assembly hall.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by about 60 people from various sectors, including Kim Yoon-cheol, the mayor of Hapcheon County, county executive officials, and families of council members celebrating the council's inauguration.
In his inaugural address, newly appointed Chairperson Jo Samsul expressed his determination, stating, “Building on the solid foundation laid by predecessor councilors from the 1st to the 8th council, I will devote myself to fulfilling the era’s mission of ‘a progressive future for Hapcheon County’ and ‘development of county administration and legislative activities.’”
Chairperson Jo pledged, “The Hapcheon County Council, which has swiftly and prudently resolved complex and diverse county administrative issues through communication and cooperation with the executive branch more than any other council nationwide, will continue to build a strong mutual trust relationship with newly appointed Mayor Kim Yoon-cheol in the 9th council and jointly envision a rosy future for Hapcheon County.”
