[Asia Economy Reporters Hyunju Lee and Boryeong Geum] Kwon Seong-dong, floor leader of the People Power Party, emphasized on the 5th that "the Democratic Party of Korea should engage in negotiations for the organization of the National Assembly without any conditions."
At the floor strategy meeting held that day, Floor Leader Kwon stated, "To promptly resolve urgent livelihood issues, the chairpersons of the standing committees must be elected as soon as possible, even if it takes just one day."
He said, "Since the Speaker of the National Assembly is held by the Democratic Party, the first negotiation group, the Chairperson of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee should be held by the People Power Party, the second negotiation group," adding, "The standing committees should be distributed in an 11 to 7 ratio as agreed upon last July."
Later, during a meeting with reporters, Floor Leader Kwon responded to a question about the criteria for classifying standing committees by saying, "There are standing committees that were held when we were the ruling party and when we were the opposition," and added, "With the change of administration, traditions and practices have been established. I believe each party can take charge of the chairpersons of the standing committees accordingly."
