[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] The Sejong Institute Foundation and the Korea Literature Translation Institute have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to expand the overseas dissemination of Korean literature and the Korean language. The signing ceremony, held on the 4th at the Korea Literature Translation Institute conference room in Gangnam-gu, was attended by Lee Haeyoung, chairman of the Sejong Institute Foundation, and Kwak Hyohwan, president of the Korea Literature Translation Institute.


The agreement includes cooperation in ▲ expanding the base of Korean language and literature and human exchange ▲ international exchange and promotion ▲ providing Korean language and culture content.


An official stated, "Primarily, when the Korea Literature Translation Institute opens a 'Translation Academy' to train professional translators, the Sejong Institute will conduct special lectures by Korean literature experts."


Chairman Lee Haeyoung said, "Last year, a graduate from the Australian Sejong Institute won the grand prize in the webtoon category of the Korea Literature Translation Institute's translation contest, indicating the growing diversity of foreign demand for Korean language learning. Through this agreement, we will actively promote Korean literature widely and foster professionals in translation and interpretation."


President Kwak Hyohwan said, "We will actively promote cooperative projects to widely publicize the charm of Korean language and Korean artistic and cultural content and to discover and nurture related personnel."


The Korea Literature Translation Institute is an institution dedicated to the translation, publication, promotion of Korean literature, and training of translation personnel. Since 1996, it has translated and published over 1,700 works in 44 languages. The Sejong Institute Foundation is the organization responsible for Korean language education and the dissemination of Korean culture, currently operating 244 institutes in 84 countries.
