Suwon Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market Seafood 'Radiation Safe' Suwon Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Seafood sold at the Suwon Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market has been found to be safe from radiation.

The Suwon Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market announced on the 5th that it conducted radiation safety tests on 50 types of seafood distributed in the market from April to June using a simple radiation detector, and all were judged as 'suitable.'

Earlier, the Suwon Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market introduced a simple radiation detector in October last year to conduct radiation safety tests on seafood regularly. In addition to simple radiation measurements, seafood samples are collected and sent twice a year to the Gyeonggi-do Institute of Health and Environment's Agricultural and Marine Products Safety Testing Laboratory for radiation and heavy metal testing.

Since January 2014, safety tests have been conducted 35 times on 305 cases of distributed seafood, all of which received suitable judgments.

A representative of the Suwon Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market stated, "We will focus on inspecting imported seafood from Japan and other countries to alleviate concerns about radiation-contaminated seafood," and added, "We will do our best to manage food safety so that citizens can visit the market with peace of mind."
