KIST and Digital Healthcare Specialist Training → On-site Curriculum with Top Instructors Participating
Operating 3 Courses: Medical Device Standard R&D, Medical Device Commercialization, Big Data Utilization... Selecting 50 Participants
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 5th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will nurture talent to lead the ‘digital healthcare’ industry, which is gaining attention as a future growth engine, in Hongneung Small Giant Special Zone, a hub for the bio industry and home to Korea’s top research and educational capabilities.
Digital healthcare services refer to services that combine medical technology with information and communication technology (ICT) to provide personalized disease prevention. Although the growth rate has accelerated amid the COVID-19 situation, the shortage of industrial technology personnel in this field continues to increase.
This ‘Digital Healthcare Future Talent Training Program’ is part of a project where Seoul City nurtures and supports talent required by companies, as the demand for workforce in industries such as drones, robots, and the Internet of Things is rapidly increasing, but the supply of talent remains insufficient.
Seoul City conducted a training demand survey targeting core technology institutions and resident companies within the Hongneung Small Giant Special Zone, designed the entire curriculum focusing on courses needed in the field, and structured the program so that participants can be immediately deployed to the workplace after completion. After completing the program taught by top instructors, employment support will be provided in connection with companies and others.
The training program consists of three courses with a total of 50 selected participants. The courses include Medical Device Standards Compliance R&D Expert Course, Digital Health Medical Device Commercialization Strategy Course, and Big Data Utilization Course. The training venues include lecture rooms at Korea University and the Seoul Bio Hub education center, allowing not only theoretical learning but also practical training linked with resident companies.
The program is open to Seoul citizens including job seekers (unemployed), current employees, and startup executives. University (graduate) students and company employees located in Seoul are also eligible to apply. The application period is from the 6th to the 19th, and detailed information can be found on the Seoul City website’s notices and announcements board as well as the Hongneung Small Giant Special Zone website.
Baek Hyun-sook, Director of New Growth Industry Planning at Seoul City, said, “With the aging population and increased interest in health management due to COVID-19, the digital healthcare sector, which is growing at an average annual rate of 39%, is an industry that will lead Seoul’s future growth. We will operate the digital healthcare professional training program so that it leads to quality jobs for young people and ultimately drives the overall growth of the domestic biohealthcare industry.”
