According to local media such as ABC News, the shooting took place about 10 minutes after the parade began in Highland Park, a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. So far, at least six people have died and 24 have been seriously or moderately injured. It is reported that the number of deaths among the injured may increase.

The parade was immediately halted, and the police recovered firearms at the scene through a search. The suspect has not yet been apprehended. At a press conference, the police stated, "The suspect is a white male aged 18 to 20," and "He is wearing a blue or white T-shirt."
