[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The National Police Commission will review the proposal for the appointment of the next Commissioner General of the National Police Agency on the 5th.

On the 4th, the Police Commission announced that it will convene a meeting at 11 a.m. the next day to review the proposal for the appointment of the next Commissioner General. If the National Police Commission approves the appointment consent, the Minister of the Interior and Safety will recommend the candidate, and President Yoon Seok-yeol will designate the nominee. After the National Assembly's confirmation hearing process, the candidate will assume office as the 23rd Commissioner General of the National Police Agency. The term of the Commissioner General is two years.

So far, Yoon Hee-geun, Deputy Commissioner General of the National Police Agency, and Kim Kwang-ho, Commissioner General of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, have been strongly mentioned as likely candidates for the next Commissioner General. However, whoever is appointed is expected to begin their term amid challenging internal and external circumstances. They will need to stabilize the unsettled internal atmosphere caused by Commissioner General Kim Chang-ryong's resignation and prepare countermeasures against the intensified police control measures by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
