[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] The court has issued a compulsory mediation order requiring rapper Dok2 (real name Lee Joon-kyung, 31) to pay the outstanding amount for precious metals to an overseas jewelry company.

The Civil Appeals Division 4 of the Seoul Southern District Court (Presiding Judges Oh Yeon-jeong, Kwon Soon-ho, Kang Hee-seok) announced on the 4th that a lawsuit filed by Mr. A, a jewelry merchant in Los Angeles (LA), USA, against Dok2 for payment of goods was referred to mediation in March, and compulsory mediation was reached on the 8th of last month.

The court accepted most of Mr. A's claims and reportedly ordered Dok2 to pay $34,740 (approximately 45.09 million KRW) plus delayed damages in three installments by January 6 of next year.

Mr. A claimed that Dok2 purchased seven pieces of precious metals, including gold rings and gold necklaces, worth $206,000 (approximately 240 million KRW) in three installments from September to November 2018, but failed to pay $34,740 of that amount.

Mr. A lost a lawsuit against Dok2's former agency Illionaire Records in October 2019 regarding the payment for goods, and filed a new lawsuit against Dok2 personally in September last year. Earlier, Judge Ahn Hong-jun of the Civil Division 6 of the Seoul Southern District Court ruled in the first trial that "the defendant shall pay approximately 41.2 million KRW ($34,740) plus interest," ruling in favor of the plaintiff. Dok2 filed an appeal on January 4.

The decision was finalized on the 1st after both Dok2 and Mr. A did not file any objections within two weeks of receiving the decision document.

Compulsory mediation is a decision made by the court ex officio to replace mediation for a fair resolution when parties fail to reach an agreement during mediation proceedings. A finalized compulsory mediation decision has the same effect as a court settlement, and a settlement has the same effect as a final judgment.
