Henkel Acquires Shiseido Professional Hair Business

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] Henkel announced on the 4th that it has successfully completed the acquisition of Shiseido's professional hair business, headquartered in Tokyo. This acquisition includes Shiseido's professional brands Sublimic and Primience.

The business acquisition agreement was signed on February 9th. The business reported sales of over 100 million euros based on the 2021 fiscal year and employs approximately 500 people.

According to Henkel, building on the success of Schwarzkopf Professional, a global expert brand in hair color innovation and trends, the addition of Shiseido Professional enhances capabilities and understanding related to J-Beauty premium hair and scalp care, hair loss prevention, styling, and perm solutions.

Henkel plans to establish a J-Beauty innovation hub in Tokyo to develop and customize products for Asian consumers. For example, it will work on developing new products and formulating ingredients for both Shiseido Professional and Schwarzkopf brands.

David Tung, President of Henkel Consumer Brands Asia Pacific, said, “We have a strong ambition to grow our beauty care business in the Asia-Pacific region,” adding, “Through this acquisition, we have secured a much stronger market position in Japan and China, established a presence in Korea, and gained a leading position in Thailand.”
