Successful Two-Way Communication with Ground Station on Morning of Day 4 After 3 Days of Injection
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-su] Seoul National University confirmed that the CubeSat 'SNUglight-2,' deployed into orbit aboard the performance verification satellite during the second Nuri rocket launch, is operating normally.
According to the Ministry of Science and ICT on the 4th, the Seoul National University research team succeeded in two-way communication with the CubeSat at around 3:21 AM that day. Previously, the CubeSat was deployed from the performance verification satellite into a 700 km orbit at 4:24 PM the previous day.
During this communication, the Seoul National University ground station sent an antenna deployment command, and the satellite responded by deploying the antenna deployment unit and transmitting status information, confirming successful two-way communication. Subsequently, nine status reports were received. As a result, it was confirmed that the power supply (normal, 8.3 volts), angular velocity (stabilized, 0.2 deg/s), and the self-developed space-use GPS receiver (normal, time synchronization completed) were all within normal ranges.
The next communication is scheduled for around 4:59 PM on the same day, during which the satellite’s status will be checked by receiving records of the situation from the moment the satellite’s power was turned on until the present.
This CubeSat observes the Earth's atmosphere by utilizing GPS signal occultation phenomena. It was launched aboard the performance verification satellite during the second Nuri rocket launch on the 21st of last month. Other CubeSats launched together are also being deployed one after another. On the 29th of last month, a CubeSat made by Chosun University, and on the 1st of this month, a CubeSat made by KAIST reached orbit. Both have succeeded in partial and two-way communications. On the 5th, the last CubeSat, 'MIMAN,' developed by Yonsei University for observing fine dust around the Korean Peninsula, will be deployed.
