[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) announced that it will hold the inauguration ceremony of Mayor Park Gang-su of the 8th local government at 3 p.m. on the 5th in the main auditorium of Mapo-gu Office.

At the request of Mayor Park Gang-su, the inauguration ceremony will be held in a modest atmosphere, refraining from special events in consideration of conditions such as heavy rain during the rainy season.

In his inaugural speech, Mayor Park said, “With an indomitable spirit, I will walk steadily without wavering, thinking only of the interests of the socially vulnerable and the majority of residents,” and will share the vision and policy direction of the 8th local government of Mapo-gu with the attendees.

He also stated, “In the past, Mapo suffered from 100 years of pain due to the Danginri Power Plant and sacrifices caused by the landfill of Nanji Island, and although it now possesses infinite development potential with natural resources such as the Han River, Gyeongui Line Forest Trail, World Cup Park, and the cultural and artistic hub Hongdae area, growth has come to a halt.” He plans to announce the four-year administrative direction to reclaim the lost rights of Mapo and respond to residents who desire new changes and leaps forward.

Specifically, this includes ▲real communication administration rather than formal communication ▲customized welfare administration for the common people and the vulnerable ▲creation of a cultural tourism city full of attractions and entertainment ▲urban development and job creation to lead a higher level of regional development ▲and administration faithful to the basics.

About 1,000 people, including local residents from all walks of life, Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, and Democratic Party lawmakers Roh Woong-rae and Jung Chung-rae, will attend the inauguration ceremony.

Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) has launched a preemptive emergency pest control to respond to the rampant swarms of ‘Lovebugs’.

The official name of the Lovebug is ‘Plecia Niactica.’ They are called Lovebugs because males and females fly in pairs not only during mating but also while flying. They are non-toxic and do not bite humans, but their distinctive appearance causes disgust, and their habit of flying toward people causes discomfort among residents.

Accordingly, on the 3rd, the mayor held an emergency meeting to establish pest control measures and is making every effort to ensure residents’ safety. The district office operates a temporary situation room at the public health center (not only on weekdays but also on weekends and nights) until the swarms disappear.

In addition, to ensure effective pest control, the district has established a cooperative system with neighboring autonomous districts and the Western Park Greenery Office, mobilizing private resources such as the Saemaeul autonomous pest control teams in 16 neighborhoods within the district.

The district also plans to request testing and inspection from the Seoul Institute of Health and Environment to accurately analyze the cause and ensure efficient pest control.

Mayor Park Gang-su of Mapo-gu said, “Since Lovebugs thrive in humid environments, we ask residents to cooperate by keeping the surroundings clean during the rainy season to minimize inconvenience,” and added, “We will prioritize residents’ safety and mobilize all administrative power to build an administrative system that can respond immediately to disaster situations.”
