"More Exercise (53.0%) Such as Health and Hiking, and Hobbies (46.8%) Expected"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] A survey revealed that even in the endemic (periodic outbreak of infectious diseases) era, 9 out of 10 people will maintain their frequency of online and mobile shopping.
On the 1st, Lotte Members announced the results of a survey conducted through the research platform Lime on changes in shopping and leisure activities in the endemic era, stating that 77.4% of respondents answered that there would be no change in the frequency of online and mobile shopping in the endemic era. Additionally, 18.1% of respondents said that the frequency of online and mobile shopping would increase compared to now.
56.1% of respondents said that their frequency of online and mobile shopping increased after the spread of COVID-19.
The reasons for online and mobile shopping (multiple responses allowed) were 'because it is convenient' (48.0%), 'because there are many discounts and promotions' (37.5%), 'because it saves time' (37.5%), 'because it can be used anytime and anywhere' (36.5%), 'because various products can be compared' (31.1%), 'because delivery is fast' (29.6%), 'because it can be received at the desired time' (26.3%), and 'because visiting offline stores is uneasy due to COVID-19' (26.1%), in that order of high response rates.
Regarding changes in purchase frequency by shopping category, many respondents said that after the endemic, purchases of groceries (42.8%), fashion clothing (41.8%), fashion accessories (39.8%), health foods (38.6%), hobby items (28.3%), and diet foods (27.3%) would increase. This result predicts that many people will start preparing for active external activities such as appearance management due to the normalization of private gatherings and commuting.
For disinfectants (41.5%) and pharmaceuticals/medical supplies (45.0%), many respondents answered that there would be no change in purchase frequency even in the endemic era. This is interpreted as many consumers wanting to consistently pay attention to personal quarantine and health hygiene due to the endemic nature of infectious diseases.
It was also observed that there will be many changes in leisure activities as well as shopping after the endemic. In this survey, 46.8% of respondents said that their hobbies would increase after the endemic, specifically mentioning activities such as hiking (26.9%), foreign language study (20.4%), cooking and baking (20.1%), and camping (18.2%).
53.0% of respondents also said that their frequency of exercise would increase in the endemic era. The expected increase in exercise types included health club workouts (27.7%), hiking (27.7%), running (23.0%), home training (21.9%), yoga and Pilates (21.6%), and cycling (17.3%).
This survey was conducted from May 20 to 27 with 800 men and women nationwide aged 20 to 60. The sampling error is ±3.46 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
