Positive Ratings Down 4 Percentage Points, Negative Ratings Up 4 Percentage Points
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] President Yoon Suk-yeol's approval rating for his administration has shown a decline once again. It was found that President Yoon's approval rating dropped by 10 percentage points within a month.
According to a public opinion poll released by Gallup on the 1st (conducted from the 28th to 30th, targeting 1,000 adults aged 18 and over nationwide, via telephone interviewer interviews), President Yoon's approval rating recorded 43%, down 4 percentage points from the previous week's survey. The negative evaluation of his administration rose by 4 percentage points to 42%.
Considering that President Yoon's approval rating was 53% in the first and second weeks of June, the approval rating has dropped by 10 percentage points within a month.
Gallup explained, "The reason for the decrease in positive evaluations and increase in negative evaluations is the change among the moderate and non-affiliated groups," adding, "In the first two weeks of June, the president's positive rating among moderates was about 50%, and the negative rating was in the mid-30% range, but this week it changed to 37% and 46%, respectively. Among the non-affiliated, the positive and negative ratings were both in the mid-30% range in early June, but since last week, they shifted to the mid-20% range and mid-40% range, respectively."
Those who positively evaluated the president's job performance cited reasons such as ‘decisiveness, drive, perseverance’ (6%), ‘national defense and security’, ‘hardworking and doing their best’, ‘overall good performance’, ‘communication’, ‘overcoming the previous administration’ (all 5%), ‘fairness, justice, principles’ (4%), ‘subjectivity and conviction’, ‘change and reform’, ‘diplomacy’, ‘personnel management’, ‘nuclear power policy’, ‘economy and livelihood’, ‘fulfillment of campaign promises’, and ‘truthfulness, honesty, no deceit’ (all 3%).
Those who evaluated negatively mentioned ‘personnel management’ (18%), ‘not caring about economy and livelihood’ (10%), ‘arbitrary and unilateral’ (7%), ‘lack of experience, qualifications, incompetence’ (6%), ‘overall poor performance’, ‘lack of communication’, ‘relocation of the presidential office’ (all 5%), ‘job attitude’, ‘poor fulfillment of campaign promises’ (both 4%), and ‘diplomacy’ (3%).
Regarding party support, the People Power Party's approval rating fell by 2 percentage points from last week to 40%. The Democratic Party maintained the same 28% as last week.
