[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the afternoon of the 1st, Mayor Oh Se-hoon and Jongno-gu Mayor Jeong Mun-heon, along with the heads of 25 autonomous districts of Seoul, held the inauguration ceremony for the 8th term of the elected government and began their full-scale activities.

In particular, the district heads of Seoul stated in their inaugural speeches that they would actively promote regional development and change through communication with residents based on the local public sentiment reflected in the June 1 local elections.

Jongno-gu Mayor Jeong Mun-heon said, “Based on a clear history and tradition that everyone agrees on, we aim to create a new Jongno that leads a future-oriented culture,” adding, “We will create innovations to make Jongno a place where the classic charm lives and a place where refined beauty thrives.”

Jung-gu Mayor Kim Gil-seong pledged, “I will revive the past glory of Jung-gu, which was bustling with people day and night 365 days a year, and make it a lively and vibrant Jung-gu where people flock again and residents live well.”

Gwangjin-gu Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said, “For balanced regional development, we will establish and promote a development plan for Junggok-dong along with a high-density development plan around the station area, creating a diverse skyline through upgrading mixed-use zones and distributing commercial areas by region to enhance residents’ convenience,” and added, “Together with all Gwangjin-gu staff, I will practice kind and honest administration.”

Dongdaemun-gu Mayor Lee Pil-hyung stated, “I will put everything into the Cheongnyangni complex development. Through the development of the Cheongnyangni station area, I will change Dongdaemun’s skyline,” and said, “With the establishment of the metropolitan area express rail GTX-B and C lines, as well as the Myeonmok Line and Gangbuk Transversal Line, Cheongnyangni will truly emerge as a transportation hub and leap forward as the ‘central city of Seoul.’” He also promised, “We will install an urban airport terminal at Cheongnyangni Station and connect drone taxis to Incheon and Gimpo Airports.”

Jungnang-gu Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi said, “Together with 1,400 Jungnang-gu officials, I will practice warm and kind administration, clean and honest administration, and lifestyle administration that is with residents in their daily lives,” adding, “I will become a ‘warm friend and neighbor-like mayor of Jungnang residents’ by patrolling alleys with early morning cleaning and meeting more people through Jungnang Masil to find answers on site.”

Dobong-gu Mayor Oh Eun-seok said, “We must make Dobong a new economic center in the northeast by providing groundbreaking support for reconstruction and redevelopment, establishing urban planning and regional development strategies, protecting the property rights of Dobong residents that have been restricted for a long time, and completing the gateway city transportation system,” and added, “I will make it a ‘vibrant economic city’ through support for self-employed small business owners and implementation of productive welfare.”

Nowon-gu Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “We will leap forward as a future-oriented growth city by building Nowon Seoul National University Hospital and a bio-job complex on the 75,000-pyeong site of Changdong vehicle base and the licensing examination site,” promising, “We will create a faster and more convenient transportation city by starting construction of the GTX-C line and promoting the express service of subway line 4.”

Eunpyeong-gu Mayor Kim Mi-kyung said, “We will promptly promote the extension of the Shinbundang Line to the northwest, the western light rail, and the opening of Eunpyeongsaegil and Tongillo bypass roads to significantly improve the district’s transportation environment. Once the GTX-A line, currently under construction at Yeonsinnae Station, opens, moving between downtown and Gangnam areas will become much easier. We will actively develop the commercial area around Yeonsinnae to increase consumption by floating population,” and added, “The Susaek station area will be developed into a complex cultural shopping hub by gathering convention facilities, shopping malls, hotels, and performance halls.”

Gangseo-gu Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “I will lay the foundation for the ‘100-year Gangseo Renaissance,’” and added, “To this end, I will support comprehensive reconstruction and redevelopment for the Magok-ification of the entire Gangseo area.”

Geumcheon-gu Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon said, “The 8th term of the elected government will promote Geumcheon’s full-fledged leap forward as a gateway city in the southwest region through urban infrastructure construction including transportation, residential maintenance, and regional development, as well as the full-scale development of distribution and steel markets. At the same time, I will devote myself to growing Geumcheon into an educational and cultural city, expanding the local economy and jobs, and creating a community where neighbors care for each other.”

Songpa-gu Mayor Seo Kang-seok said, “I will make Songpa-daero, the face of Songpa, the best luxury street,” and added, “We will expand commercial areas on Songpa-daero and attract leading companies.” He also said, “We will develop the entrance of Songpa-daero, linking Lotte World Tower and Seokchon Lake, into a world-class luxury street.”

The brilliant blueprints revealed in the inaugural speeches on this day are attracting attention as to how they will be evaluated after the 8th term of the elected government ends.
