[Haenam=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, was selected as the best county in the evaluation of Jeollanam-do's winter and summer training camp hosting performance, earning the honor of winning the best county award for three consecutive years.
According to the county on the 30th, during last year's summer and winter periods, a total of 4,319 athletes from 14 sports, amounting to 32,778 person-days, visited Haenam for training camps.
This accounted for 16.17% of all training camp visiting teams in Jeollanam-do, confirming once again its status as an advanced sports marketing hub with the highest number of visitors.
The reasons training teams prefer Haenam include well-established sports infrastructure, operation of rehabilitation camps for training teams, and differentiated marketing such as one-on-one marketing services with athletes.
In particular, early on during the COVID-19 situation, the county established COVID-19 quarantine guidelines for training camps and promoted training camps under thorough quarantine management to revitalize the local economy, which proved effective.
With the full-scale resumption of sports marketing, the county is aiming to attract 97,000 people this year through hosting nationwide sports competitions and recruiting training teams. In the first half of the year, about 52,100 person-days have already been recorded.
Following the 17th Jeollanam-do Senior Citizens' Sports Festival held on July 17-18, four Jeollanam-do community sports festivals will be held: the 6th Jeollanam-do Children's Community Sports Festival on August 27, the 2022 Jeollanam-do Disabled Community Sports Competition on September 22-23, and the 34th Jeollanam-do Community Sports Festival on October 28-30.
Additionally, in the second half of this year, the county plans to lead local economic revitalization through aggressive and differentiated sports marketing, including hosting 11 nationwide competitions, 21 regional competitions, and recruiting training teams throughout the four seasons.
Local accommodations and restaurants are already seeing bookings filled through August, signaling a wave of revitalization. The county expects an economic ripple effect of approximately 18.5 billion won through various competitions and training camps this year.
County Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan stated, “I am honored that Haenam is playing a central role as Jeollanam-do's sports marketing fully resumes after overcoming difficulties caused by COVID-19,” and added, “We will do our utmost to further expand the effects of local economic revitalization through sports marketing, including local businesses.”
