The police salvaged the vehicle owned by Joyuna's father from the sea off Songgok Port, Sinji-myeon, Wando-gun, around 12:20 PM that day.

When the police traced the whereabouts of the Joyuna family, it was found to be Wando, Jeonnam, not Jeju Island, prompting a large-scale investigation.
