[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] A military police officer who continued to contact a woman despite her expressing a desire not to be contacted has been booked on stalking charges and handed over to the Army Wide Investigation Unit.

On the 29th, the Jungnang Police Station in Seoul announced that it had booked a man in his late 20s, Mr. A, on suspicion of violating the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes and Others on the 23rd of last month.

Mr. A, a military police corporal belonging to a division under the 2nd Operations Command, courted a woman in her 20s, Ms. B, via KakaoTalk before going on leave. Even after Ms. B expressed that she did not want any further contact, Mr. A contacted her again during his leave, asking to meet. Ms. B reportedly declined, stating that she had a boyfriend.

After receiving Ms. B's report and conducting a victim investigation, the police booked Mr. A and issued a prohibition order against approaching using telecommunications. The case was then transferred to the Army Wide Investigation Unit on the 30th of last month.

A police official stated, "Mr. A and Ms. B were acquaintances, and the victim felt anxious, leading to the booking."
