[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] The U.S. Department of Commerce has added five Chinese companies that supported the Russian military to its trade sanctions list.
According to major foreign media on the 28th (local time), the U.S. Department of Commerce placed five Chinese companies, including Connect Electronic, World Zeta, and King Pie Technology, on the sanctions list.
As a result, American companies wishing to do business with these companies must obtain prior approval from the U.S. Department of Commerce.
The Department of Commerce stated that these companies supplied goods to 'entities of interest' within Russia before Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24 this year, and continued to sign supply contracts with sanctioned Russian companies thereafter.
According to the U.S. Federal Register, in addition to these, companies from Russia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Lithuania, Pakistan, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam were also added to the sanctions list for supporting the Russian military.
A total of 36 companies were added to the sanctions list. Among them, 25 operate businesses in China. Alan Estevez, U.S. Department of Commerce Under Secretary for Industry and Security, said in a statement, "Today's action sends a strong message to companies and individuals worldwide that if they attempt to support Russia, the United States will block them."
