[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Gwangju Western Fire Station announced on the 29th that a fire broke out around 10:40 AM on the 28th at a commercial building in Chipyeong-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju, but quick action by those involved prevented major damage.
The fire originated from a wire connected to the circuit breaker in the distribution panel on the second floor of the commercial building, resulting in partial damage to the distribution panel.
Fortunately, a person related to the commercial building quickly extinguished the fire using a Halon fire extinguisher installed inside the building, preventing further damage.
According to the Enforcement Decree of the Act on Fire Prevention, Installation and Maintenance of Firefighting Facilities, and Safety Management, fire extinguishers must be installed in specific firefighting targets with a total floor area of 33㎡ or more, designated cultural properties, gas facilities, tunnels, underground structures, and similar locations.
In the case of Halon fire extinguishers, except for Halon 1301 extinguishers, they cannot be used on floors without windows (windowless floors), basements, offices, or living rooms with a floor area less than 20㎡, and the discharged gas should not be inhaled and must be ventilated immediately.
A fire official stated, “It is necessary to always be aware of the location of fire extinguishers, regularly check the pressure gauge and expiration date through external inspections, and maintain a preparedness attitude for fires that can occur at any time.”
