Ewha Electric Advances Commercial Production of 'Stone', a Nicotine-Free Healthy Smoking Device

[Asia Economy Reporter Myung-hwan Lee] Ewha Electric announced on the 29th that it is promoting the commercial production of the Japanese health smoking device 'Stone'.

Stone is a health smoking device product launched by Breather, a subsidiary of Japan's largest tobacco manufacturer Japan Tobacco (JT). Unlike conventional electronic cigarettes containing nicotine, it is described as a non-toxic auxiliary smoking device that includes flavors such as caffeine, mint, and blueberry. Ewha Electric is currently engaged in the production and supply business of the Stone device.

The electronic cigarette market was worth 1.5 trillion KRW domestically and 6.4 trillion KRW in Japan as of 2018, showing an annual growth rate of over 10%. The global market size is expected to reach 50 trillion KRW by 2030. However, as controversies over the efficacy of electronic cigarettes have intensified, market expansion has somewhat slowed, drawing attention to the development of new types of functional health auxiliary smoking devices.

An Ewha Electric official stated, "Sales are currently underway on Japan Amazon.com, and through research and development of the device, we plan to gradually expand applicable business sectors such as skin beauty through smoking."

In addition, Ewha Electric is focusing on entering new businesses such as power supply devices for aircraft and ships, and small modular reactor (SMR) projects. An Ewha Electric official explained, "We are currently exploring business diversification including the small modular reactor (SMR) business, fuel cell business, and overseas business for 5G communication rectifiers," adding, "Visible results will be produced through aggressive development of new products and new business expansion."
