[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] On the 29th, the Presidential Office stated, "The opposition party's claim that the Presidential Office led the Coast Guard's investigation results announcement regarding the West Sea government official murder case is an absurd political attack."

The Presidential Office spokesperson's office said in a press release on the same day, "We reiterate clearly that the Presidential Office was not involved in the Coast Guard's investigation or any reversal of position," rebutting the claim.

The spokesperson's office added, "We will not respond to the opposition party's baseless political attacks," emphasizing, "We believe that what the opposition party should do is not reckless political attacks but to seriously accept criticism that they were negligent in protecting the lives of the people during their time in power and cooperate in uncovering the truth, such as by disclosing presidential records."

The Democratic Party of Korea launched a task force (TF) on the West Sea government official death case and held its first meeting on the same day. The Democratic Party claimed that the recent reversal by the Coast Guard of the military authorities' announcement of a defection to the North was due to the inability to secure evidence, and argued that the basis of this judgment involved the intervention of the Presidential Office's National Security Office.
