The youngest participant of the '1st Asia Economy Honam, Jeje Triathlon Golf Tournament,' 10-year-old student Oh Saehyun, is golfing with his father, 42-year-old Oh Inyoung, to successfully complete the course.
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Chang-won] Among the participants of the ‘1st Asia Economy Honam, Jeje Ironman Golf Tournament,’ 10-year-old O Sae-hyun, a 4th grader in elementary school, has applied to challenge the youngest Korean record in the ‘Longest Time Golf Marathon Team Category’ with 198 holes, drawing attention.
The Ironman Golf Tournament, hosted by Asia Economy Honam and organized by Jeje Band, the largest golf community in Jeju, will be held over three days and two nights from July 18 to 20.
The tournament challenges the Korean record for the ‘Longest Time Golf Marathon Team Category’ with a total of 198 holes: starting with 72 holes at Ora Golf Course on the first day, 54 holes at Booyoung Golf Course on the 19th, and 72 holes again at Ora Golf Course on the 20th.
As of the 29th, about 50 people have applied to challenge the 198-hole Korean record. Among them, the youngest participant is O Sae-hyun, born in January 2012, a 4th grader at Daheul Elementary School residing in Jojeon-eup, Jeju City, who has stepped forward at the age of 10 years and 7 months.
This is an extreme endurance and mental strength competition that requires at least 16 hours of play even to complete just 72 holes in 4 rounds per day.
Moreover, for a 10-year-old 4th-grade elementary student to complete 198 holes over three days is a feat that even physically fit adults rarely attempt, so O Sae-hyun’s challenge is highly regarded.
O Sae-hyun has loved sports since childhood, especially golf. After first encountering golf at age 7, he played it as a hobby with his father, Oh Young-min (42), and started playing seriously last year.
He is currently known to have a golf skill level of about 100 strokes.
O Sae-hyun’s father, Oh In-young (42), who is challenging the 198-hole Ironman Golf with his son, said, “My son is aiming to complete the 198 holes in this Ironman Golf Tournament, practicing his swing by hitting about 500 golf balls a day and building stamina by cycling on hilly roads.” He added, “We want to make every effort in the remaining 20 days so that father and son can complete 198 holes together and create precious memories.”
Meanwhile, along with the Korean record challenge for the Ironman Golf, applications are also being accepted for experiencing 72-hole, 54-hole, and 36-hole Ironman Golf rounds, with applications available through Jeje Band.
