Improving Convenience for 100,000 Yeongcheon Citizens, Contributing to Local Economic Revitalization

On the 28th, Choi Ki-moon, Mayor of Yeongcheon, visited Daegu City Hall and presented a plaque of appreciation to Kwon Young-jin, Mayor of Daegu, expressing gratitude for contributing to the improvement of citizen convenience and the revitalization of the local economy through the implementation of free metropolitan public transportation transfers between Daegu and Yeongcheon.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] Choi Ki-moon, mayor of Yeongcheon, visited Daegu City Hall on the 28th and presented a plaque of appreciation to Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin, expressing gratitude for contributing to the improvement of citizen convenience and revitalization of the local economy through the implementation of free wide-area public transportation transfers between Daegu and Yeongcheon.

The free wide-area public transportation transfer between Daegu and Yeongcheon has been a long-standing wish of 100,000 Yeongcheon citizens. Yeongcheon City directly proposed it to Daegu City in October 2018, and the free transfer agreement was signed in December of the same year, with free transfers being abruptly implemented from August 2019.

Based on mutual cooperation and joint development between regions, the implementation of free wide-area public transportation transfers between Daegu and Yeongcheon has resulted in expanded exchanges between regions as well as contributing to the activation of public transportation usage.

Choi Ki-moon, mayor of Yeongcheon, said, “Daegu and Yeongcheon are a shared living area, and I hope the cooperative relationship will become stronger for expanded exchanges, mutual growth, and citizen convenience,” adding, “I send my great support for Mayor Kwon Young-jin’s future endeavors after his retirement.”

It is known that approximately 250,000 passengers benefit annually from the free wide-area public transportation transfer between Daegu and Yeongcheon, resulting in an annual transportation cost saving effect of over 300 million KRW.
