[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] It has been revealed that the police investigated Kim Cheol-geun, the Chief of Political Affairs Office for the party leader, on suspicion of attempting to destroy evidence from a whistleblower in order to cover up allegations of sexual bribery involving Lee Jun-seok, the leader of the People Power Party.

According to a compilation of reports on the 29th, the Anti-Corruption and Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency reportedly summoned Kim Cheol-geun as a suspect for questioning last April.

In December of last year, the Garosero Research Institute (Gaseyeon) raised allegations that Kim Cheol-geun tried to persuade Jang, who exposed the sexual bribery allegations against Lee, and attempted to destroy evidence. According to Gaseyeon, Kim met with Jang and obtained a written statement confirming that there was no sexual bribery, and also wrote a memorandum promising a 700 million won investment in a dermatology clinic in Daejeon.

Jang is identified as a key figure in the allegations and is an aide to Kim Sung-jin, CEO of iKist, who is scheduled to be questioned as a witness at Seoul Detention Center on the 30th.

Furthermore, Jang recently appeared for a witness interrogation and reportedly testified that he wrote the ‘false confirmation letter’ stating there was no sexual bribery at the request of Kim Cheol-geun.

Regarding this, Kim Cheol-geun is said to maintain that the confirmation letter written by Jang is not false and that the 700 million won investment memorandum was drafted without any quid pro quo.
