[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Samsung Electronics announced on the 29th that it will include refrigerators released last year in the support targets for its home appliance power management system service, 'SmartThings Energy.' Previously, the service was only applied to air conditioners and Bespoke new products released this year.
Samsung Electronics stated that it expects power consumption to increase during the summer and will start updating to expand the supported products from today. SmartThings Energy is a service that helps households check and manage the power consumption of connected devices. It also features an 'AI Saving Mode.' After receiving the total household power consumption data from Korea Electric Power Corporation, if consumers set a power usage target, the AI compares the daily power target with the predicted usage and notifies the user. If the predicted usage is expected to exceed the target, the product switches to power-saving mode, allowing up to 21% savings on monthly power consumption.
With this update, Samsung Electronics explained that the service will be available on Bespoke refrigerators released last year. By the end of this year, this function will also be provided for washing machines and dryers released last year.
Hygiene functions will also be updated this month, considering the characteristics of the hot and humid summer season. The ultraviolet light-emitting diode (UV LED) sterilization function cycle applied to the 2022 model 'Bespoke Jet' will be extended from 90 minutes every 5 hours to 120 minutes. The UV LED sterilization function sterilizes 99.9% of the dust on the surface of the dust bag inside the 'Integrated Clean Station,' an automatic dust disposal system.
Yoo Mi-young, Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Home Appliance Business Division, said, "We updated SmartThings Energy to help reduce consumers' electricity bills during the summer, even if just a little," adding, "We will continue to strive to enhance product value according to users' lifestyle patterns through the SmartThings Home Life service."
