Samsung Biologics Boosts Employee Morale with "Thank You Food Truck" Event

Samsung Biologics Boosts Employee Morale with "Thank You Food Truck" Event

[Asia Economy, reporter Lee Chunhee] Samsung Biologics has launched a "Thank You Food Truck" event to boost employee morale.

At 11 a.m. on June 27, three food trucks appeared in the outdoor rest garden "Bio Park" at Samsung Biologics' headquarters in Songdo, Incheon. The food trucks, wrapped with the message "Great Job! Thank you for your hard work!", were filled with sets of three popular Korean street foods-fried squid, tteokbokki, and sundae-collectively known as "O-Tteok-Soon." As lunchtime arrived, Samsung Biologics employees gathered in front of the trucks, enjoying the snacks and lively music together in small groups.

Samsung Biologics explained that the event was organized to express gratitude to employees who have been striving for outstanding results despite a challenging business environment. The event, which runs for four days until June 30, will provide a total of 5,000 servings of snacks. Taking into account the 24-hour shift system, the food trucks will operate not only during lunchtime but also at night. Courtney Garcia, a professional at the Global Information Marketing Center, shared, "It was great to enjoy snacks with my teammates and bond in a cheerful atmosphere. I think this kind of event naturally creates opportunities for cultural exchange among employees of various nationalities."

This food truck event was the idea of CEO John Lim. Recognizing the importance of a corporate culture in which all members respect each other and communicate actively as "one team," he initiated the food truck event as a way to foster this environment. In September last year, to celebrate the first batch production of the Moderna vaccine, and in April this year, to mark the achievement of the first quarter operating margin target, a variety of foods such as fried chicken, hamburgers, and hot dogs were provided. The company plans to continue the food truck events in the second half of the year as well.

In addition, Samsung Biologics operates various programs to create a young and dynamic corporate culture. A representative example is the "Reverse Mentoring" program, which has been ongoing since last year. In this program, new employees serve as mentors to executives, sharing experiences with each other. By participating together in activities popular among the MZ generation-such as glamping, RPG games, tarot readings, and photo booth sessions-they are breaking down generational barriers and building empathy. The company also actively listens to diverse employee opinions through employee forums and reflects them in company policy development and improvements to welfare programs.
