Opening of Dongdaemun-gu Dapsimni Film Media Art Center

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The ‘Dapsimni Film Media Art Center’ has opened.

Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) held the opening ceremony of the ‘Dapsimni Film Media Art Center’ at 10:30 a.m. on the 28th.

The ‘Dapsimni Film Media Art Center,’ remodeled from the Dongdaemun-gu Cultural Center located at Dapsimni Chwalyeongso Hill, is a film and media convergence cultural and artistic space. The media education center on the basement level 1 is equipped with an editing room, recording room, Foley recording room, education room, equipment room, and storage. On the first floor, there is a permanent exhibition hall and a special exhibition hall where visitors can see Korean films and the Dapsimni film era at a glance, as well as a movie theater where films can be watched for free.

The second floor houses a virtual studio and film studio where visitors can shoot and experience filmmaking firsthand, and the third floor consists of a village broadcasting center including a one-person media room, radio studio, media education room, citizen broadcasting reporters’ room, and cultural arts school.

The opening ceremony, attended by Dongdaemun-gu Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol, Mayor-elect Lee Pil-hyung, members of the National Assembly, city councilors, district councilors, heads of resident autonomy committees from each neighborhood, film association officials, and local residents, featured a congratulatory performance by a string trio, a progress report on the center’s development, an unveiling ceremony of the entrance signboard, and a tour of the center.

The Dapsimni Film Media Art Center is operated by the Dongdaemun Cultural Foundation under consignment and will undergo a pilot operation until June, followed by full-scale operation starting in July.

A district official stated, “We hope that many aspiring filmmakers and residents will make use of the Dapsimni Film Media Art Center, created as a film art complex space to commemorate the Dapsimni filming studio, the cradle of Korean cinema.”

Dobong-gu (District Mayor Lee Dong-jin) held a safety construction prayer ceremony on the 28th in preparation for the resumption of construction after the successful corporate rehabilitation of Changdong Private Station last May.

Changdong Private Station, which began construction in 2004, was halted due to embezzlement by management. After corporate rehabilitation last year, the construction company (Lotte Construction) was confirmed, and preparations for resuming construction have been underway. The station is expected to begin construction soon, targeting completion in 2025.

The prayer ceremony was attended by the Dobong-gu mayor, the head of the Northeast District Project Division of Seoul City, the CEO of Changdong Private Station Co., Ltd., and officials from Lotte Construction, who prayed for the successful and accident-free completion of the project.
