Development Plan for Stabilizing 48V Power System Responding to High-Power Electrical Loads
"Will Contribute to Strengthening Capabilities in Power Conversion and Energy Storage Fields"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Solar energy company Willings announced on the 28th that it has been selected as the lead organization for the government's national project on eco-friendly automobile industry technology development.
Through this project, Willings will collaborate with four joint research institutions to develop technology for stabilizing a 48V power supply system that responds to high-power electrical loads. Willings will carry out a national project worth a total of 6.8948 billion KRW, including government support funds of 4.81 billion KRW. The project period is until December 2025.
While executing the national project, Willings will develop technologies applicable to eco-friendly vehicle models, including ▲ an integrated stabilization system for 48V and 12V ▲ a battery management system capable of auxiliary energy devices and charge/discharge control ▲ electric heating catalysts for high-power loads.
Conventional internal combustion engine vehicles have a 12V power supply system, but eco-friendly models such as mild hybrid vehicles require a 48V power supply system. The 48V mild hybrid vehicles can improve fuel efficiency by applying technologies like the BSG (Belt Starter Generator) system. However, issues of power supply system instability arise due to increased high-power loads.
Accordingly, Willings has set the research goals of the national project as ▲ suppressing factors that degrade power supply system stability ▲ ensuring operational stability under varying power consumption conditions of different loads ▲ improving fuel efficiency of eco-friendly vehicles.
Angangsoon, CEO of Willings, said, "We take pride in the possibility that Willings' power conversion technology can be utilized not only in eco-friendly energy but also in various other fields," adding, "Through the national project on eco-friendly automobile industry technology development, we will contribute to strengthening capabilities in power conversion and energy storage."
