KT Joins RE100... Leading the Way to Carbon Neutrality A KT employee is taking a commemorative photo announcing the RE100 membership at the solar power plant built on the rooftop of KT Guro Tower in Gwanak-gu.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] KT announced on the 28th that it has received final approval to join the global RE100 initiative. KT will participate in the global campaign to replace all electricity consumption with renewable energy by 2050.

RE100 stands for "Renewable Energy 100%" and is a campaign promoted since 2014 by the global nonprofit organization The Climate Group and the global environmental management certification body Carbon Disclosure Project, aiming for companies to source 100% of their electricity consumption from renewable energy by 2050. Over 370 companies worldwide, including Apple and Google, are participating.

KT will focus on securing its own renewable energy using resources within the KT Group by 2025 and strengthen research and development (R&D) in new energy technologies. By 2030, KT plans to achieve a primary target of 40% renewable energy replacement by utilizing external resources such as Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) purchases, green premiums, and Power Purchase Agreements (PPA).

This year marks the 20th anniversary of KT's privatization, and the company has proactively recognized the importance of carbon neutrality and led eco-friendly management activities.

Starting with an energy-saving campaign across nationwide workplaces in 2002 following privatization, KT formed the "Energy Saving Promotion Committee" in 2005 and participated in the government's "Voluntary Agreement System for Energy Saving and Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction" to systematically reduce energy consumption. In 2013, KT established the "Environmental Management Committee," covering the entire environmental sector beyond energy efficiency, to fully promote eco-friendly management. Last year, KT declared ESG management and 2050 net zero, accelerating carbon neutrality efforts by introducing energy-saving solutions utilizing KT's digital technologies.
