[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] The police are scheduled to investigate Kim Seong-jin, the CEO of a small and medium-sized enterprise who is a key figure in the sexual bribery allegations against Lee Jun-seok, the leader of the People Power Party.
The Anti-Corruption and Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency is reportedly set to conduct a witness investigation of Kim Seong-jin, CEO of i-Kist, at the Seoul Detention Center on the morning of the 30th.
Earlier, Kim So-yeon, the lawyer representing Kim, announced on her social media that “From 9:30 a.m. on the 30th, the Anti-Corruption and Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency will conduct a witness investigation of CEO Kim Seong-jin at the Seoul Detention Center in the form of an investigative interview.”
Last December, the Garosero Research Institute filed a complaint on YouTube accusing Lee, who was then a member of the Saenuri Party (now People Power Party) Emergency Response Committee, of receiving tens of millions of won from CEO Kim under the pretext of entertainment expenses, charging him with bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
Lee denied the sexual bribery allegations in an interview on the YouTube channel Pen & Mike TV on the 17th, stating that “both the terms (sexual bribery and bribery) are wrong.”
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency had planned to conduct a witness investigation of CEO Kim on the 23rd but postponed it at Kim’s request.
Meanwhile, through lawyer Kim, CEO Kim released a statement saying, “Mentor Lee Jun-seok, it seems you have been taking soy sauce this week. Could it be that it’s not regular soy sauce? Kim Seong-jin + soy sauce. The fact that Kim Seong-jin is being investigated by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency this week is the ‘real’ soy sauce, and the rest may be bland.”
