[Asia Economy Reporter Kwak Min-jae] As the spread of COVID-19 in China subsides, the authorities in Beijing and Shanghai have begun preparations for the restoration of daily life. Both cities have implemented strong quarantine policies such as city lockdowns and remote work.


According to the National Health Commission of China on the 26th, the number of infections in Shanghai was zero the previous day. They achieved zero COVID for two consecutive days.


The number of infections in Beijing the previous day was also 1, down by 1 from 2 on the 24th, bringing them close to achieving zero COVID.


Both cities will begin preparations for the restoration of daily life starting on the 27th.


Beijing has decided to resume in-person classes for elementary, middle, and high schools, which had been suspended since early last month. Except for areas classified as lockdown or controlled zones due to infections, all elementary, middle, and high school students will return to in-person classes.


Shanghai has decided to allow dining inside restaurants starting from the 29th in areas not classified as medium-risk and where no infections have occurred within a week.
