Russian Ministry of Defense "Complete Capture of Severodonetsk"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kwak Min-jae] The Russian Ministry of Defense announced in an urgent statement that it has completely occupied the city of Severodonetsk and surrounding areas in Luhansk Oblast (known as Luhansk in Ukraine), a fierce battleground in the eastern Donbas region of Ukraine.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense on the evening of the 25th (local time), the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) forces, supported by the Russian military, successfully completed an offensive operation and fully occupied Severodonetsk city, as well as Borovskoye city on the southern outskirts, and the villages of Voronovo and Sirotino.

The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed, "The enemy's attempt to turn the Azot industrial zone in Severodonetsk into a resistance stronghold was thwarted," adding, "Currently, this factory area is under the control of LPR forces."

Severodonetsk and Lysychansk, a city across the Siverskyi Donets River, are strategic key points in the Donbas region belonging to Luhansk Oblast (Luhansk). Until now, the Russian military, together with LPR forces, has launched large-scale offensives to drive out the Ukrainian military.

Once Lysychansk, which is currently known to be completely encircled, is captured, the Russian military and LPR forces will have full control over Luhansk Oblast.
