Pohang City Holds Event to Distribute "Tree of Life" (Companion Plants) That Bring Vitality to Life.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] The 15th Tree of Life Sharing Event, hosted by Pohang City and Gyeongbuk Life Forest and sponsored by POSCO, was held on the 25th at the Yeongildae Beach Plaza area.

At the event, 3,500 companion plants (Monstera and 3 other species) were distributed to citizens on a first-come, first-served basis, two plants per person, for indoor air purification and psychological stability. The companion plants distributed were 3,500 indoor air-purifying plants of four species?Monstera, Heart Ivy, Kalanchoe, and Peperomia?with fine dust reduction effects.

In celebration of June, the month of patriotic veterans, a Mugunghwa (Rose of Sharon) pot planting experience booth was also operated as part of the Mugunghwa Love Movement, allowing citizens who applied on-site to experience planting Mugunghwa in pots.

The term "companion plant" is a neologism combining "pet" (meaning companion animal) and "plant," referring to plants kept close and nurtured. Nowadays, the meaning of companion plants goes beyond mere decoration placed in the home to being life partners, serving as home interior elements and objects of emotional interaction beyond the joy of cultivation.

Mayor Kang-deok Lee said, "I hope that the companion plants distributed through this event will help, even if just a little, in the psychological, physical, and social health recovery of citizens exhausted by the COVID-19 aftermath, and that people will enjoy the small happiness of growing plants."
